Tuesday 4th May 2010 Tasleem Sayani was invited by expatwoman.com to their Tax and Wills advice evening to speak about Wills and inheritance planning laws in the region. Expatwoman.com is a popular online magazine for expats, which provides information, advice and features about all aspects of expat living. The website has a dedicated forum on which many topical subjects are discussed by members. It was increasingly evident that Wills and the uncertainty of the laws in the region relating to the subject was a commonly discussed topic which posed many questions. The management of expat woman.com found that when researching potential speakers for this event, only very few law firms in Dubai are authorised by the Ruler’s Office to provide such advice - James Berry & Associates is one them. It was emphasised to the audience to enquire with their potential advisor whether they possessed the necessary licence to carry out work of this nature. The event was extremely popular with over a hundred expat women and their partners attending. Many questions were raised and a lively discussion took place on the subject of inheritance laws and procedures in Dubai. Thursday 29th April 2010 Tasleem Sayani was invited by Mondial Financial Partners to their weekly general meeting to talk to their financial consultants and wealth planners about Wills and inheritance planning laws in the region. Mondial Financial Partners is a leading offshore financial services group with a strong presence in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. All of the consultants and wealth planners advise their clients to put Wills in place but most were unsure of the laws in the region and were therefore unable to emphasise the importance of putting a structure in place. The informal presentation gave the personnel many opportunities to ask questions and discuss case studies. Sunday 28th February 2010 Tasleem Sayani was invited by Landmark Properties LLC to their monthly general meeting to do a presentation for their sales consultants on Wills and inheritance planning for their potential clients who are leasing or purchasing property in this region. Landmark Properties is one of the leading real estate brokerage firms and consultancy providers in the United Arab Emirates and boasts annual sales transactions of AED 8 billion, and leasing transactions upward of AED 1 billion. Landmark properties along with their affiliates Landmark Advisory and Amlak Finance PJSC, are widely recognized as operating within the top tier of Gulf real estate companies. The presentation gave the consultants an opportunity to ask questions about Wills and inheritance laws in this region, with a particular emphasis on the implications for expatriates who have purchased real estate in the region. The presentation was well-attended and provoked a number of interesting questions.
