Family Law

Separating or divorcing is never easy but when couples and their lawyers take a less adversarial approach, the entire family benefits.

We are committed to the practice of collaborative law for resolving family law matters including divorce, separation, financial issues and property disputes. In the collaborative process, husbands, wives, their lawyers, and any other collaborative professionals working with the family, agree to resolve all issues of their case without contentious court proceedings. They plan together to craft an agreement.

We do not go to court except to sanction the final consent order and to process an agreed form of divorce petition. In the unlikely event that the collaborative process breaks down, then both participants must instruct new lawyers if they wish to resort to a court based approach.

The collaborative model is often faster and more "user friendly" than court proceedings. It can help keep channels of communication open between participants, which is vital where there is a continued need to co-parent children. It can also help parties to conclude an agreement which they can live with longer-term.
